Ellemavasye (also spelled Ellamavasye) is a traditional annual ritual observed in coastal Karnataka, especially in Udupi district. It falls on the new moon day (Amavasya) of the Margashirsha month of the Hindu calendar. On this day, devotees take a holy dip in rivers or the sea to honour ancestors and perform sacred rites (such as tilatarpana), seeking blessings and spiritual purification.
